Sian Healey

We're delighted to have Sian Healey join our pack and paint a guide dog sculpture for our trail.

About Sian

Siân Healey is a vision impaired artist and person with Albinism. The condition affects her vision, and this is reflected in her artwork which is often bright, abstracted and blurry. A qualified teacher, Siân has run art and craft workshops for vision impaired adults and children. Siân has been a member of DAC, often submitting pieces that have been in their exhibitions. In 2020, her work, ‘Covid-19 Recovery Room’, was chosen as one of the finalists in the DAC art competition.
Siân enjoys reflecting her life with her guide dog in her work and dogs feature heavily in her work. Working in oils and acrylics, Siân will often build in her work with collage and find materials to create texture.

Siân donates her work to various charities including Guide Dogs. She often creates artwork for cards and craft products to be sold for charity. In 2021 Siân organised, with the support of Guide Dogs, a Charity Pop Up Shop that exhibited her work to raise funds and offer support to the vision impaired community.

As part of Network Rail’s 2018 ‘No Boundaries’, Siân was commissioned with 19 other disabled artists to create a work to be toured around Railway Stations throughout Britain. The piece of work ‘Waiting for a Train’ features four guide dogs at a train station.

Siân was part of the Disability Arts Cymru (DAC) ‘Creativity is Mistakes’ Art consultation group which liaised with and advised a range of art galleries on accessibility and awareness. The group had a weekend residency at Mostyn Art Gallery.

Siân has been involved in supporting the Museum of Wales staff in developing their audio tours and is now involved in advising and consulting with Artes Mundi about accessibility and audio tours.

Being involved in Paws on the Wharf is a wonderful opportunity for Siân to give back to a charity that has supported her immeasurably. As well as helping her achieve day-to-day tasks, Siân’s guide dogs have allowed her the independence to be able to attend art classes. This has enabled her to grow in confidence, developing and adapting her creative skills.
