About Alex

As a child, Alex was diagnosed with an eye condition called Retinitis Pigmentosa (RP) - a group of rare genetic disorders that involve a breakdown and loss of cells in the retina, resulting in difficulty seeing in low light environments and a loss of peripheral vision. As an adult, Alex has also been diagnosed with epilepsy. Despite this, Alex is always pushing herself to take on new challenges and further develop her skills – ultimately achieving a Master’s Degree in Fine Art from the University of Hertfordshire.

With her vision impairment, Alex’s work strikes an interesting balance between attention to detail and abstract, dreamlike qualities. Alex enjoys working with a variety of mediums – including paints, ceramics and crochet – exploring different techniques to further develop her style.

In her spare time, Alex is a fundraising volunteer for Guide Dogs and uses her skillset to increase awareness of their life-changing work. Between 2021 and 2022, Alex produced 90 dog paintings in celebration of the charity’s 90th anniversary. Never one to shy away from a challenge, Alex was thrilled to be invited to take part in Paws on the Wharf!
