Make a difference to people with sight loss

Stacey’s sight loss was sudden and unexpected. At the age of just 21 she fell ill while on holiday and within days was saying goodbyes to her family fearing for the worst, as the doctors prepared to induce a coma. “When I woke up my sight didn’t return to what it used to be like. Doctors said that blood clots travelled to my brain damaging both optic nerves and that it was permanent” says Stacey “my central vision is completely gone now.”

Her dream of becoming a nurse was shattered and her life was turned upside down. “I felt worthless. I’d gone from being very independent to being unable to make a cup of tea and having to rely on my family to do everything for me. I felt like there is no way of coming out of the black hole I’ve found myself in” says Stacey.

This was until her guide dog Toffee came along, taking Stacey out of her shell and out the door. The difference he’s made to her independence is extraordinary.

My world turned back around and everything was fully in its place again. I feel like I have my life back!
