Manchester Mobility Team

The Manchester Mobility Team is made up of 48 staff based at the Guide Dogs Training School in Atherton, Manchester. We have around 300 guide dog owners at any time. We cover the following areas:

  • Greater Manchester
  • Isle of Man
  • Lancashire

Headed by Richard Bounds, Head of Mobility Services, the team consists of a wide range of staff with different roles, who all work together to improve the mobility and independence of people with sight loss in our area. Some of the trainers work with a visually impaired person so they can use a guide dog, others help by teaching routes and building confidence. We also have staff who recruit volunteers and others who plan our fundraising activities, so that we can continue to support as many people with sight loss as possible. We have a strong army of volunteers who board dogs, drive vehicles, fundraise and campaign for us amongst many other things.

Our services include:

  • Guide Dog Service
There is no age limit and we are now working with children and young people under the age of 16. You don’t need to have completely lost your sight, most people with a guide dog have some vision.
  • My Guide
Our My Guide volunteers are specially trained with sighted guiding skills to help you get out and about with confidence and enjoy social events. We can train friends and family and work with businesses and equip them with sighted guiding skills so they have the confidence to help people with sight loss.

If you or someone you know has sight loss, please make contact with us and we’ll do our best to help. If there are other types of support you need, we can provide information about other services you may find helpful.

We look forward to hearing from you.
